Theatre against Prejudice - Bringing European Values Closer to Youth in Serbia

Project Description:

This project will work in the cities of Priboj, Prijepolje, Novi Pazar, Vršac, Sečanj, Zrenjanin, Majdanpek, Kladovo, Negotin and Bor with grass root CSOs, attempting to reach to young people from distant, inter-ethnic and culturally excluded communities. Grass root CSOs will be capacitated to act as human rights defenders and pursue combat against discrimination and inequality and young people involved in organizing and undertaking theatre/street performances enabling their local communities experience theatre pieces on prejudices and stereotypes, discrimination, xenophobia, racism and other human rights violations.   

The main activities will include:

-        Outreach to grass root CSOs from 10 underdeveloped municipalities in Serbia, promotional campaign and field visits;

-        Training on how to work with young people and community groups;

-        Joint preparation of theatre plays on prejudices and stereotypes, discrimination, xenophobia, racism and other human rights violations;

-        Implementation of theatre/street performances in selected communities;

The expected results include:

1)      Improved capacities of CSOs in Serbia to work as human rights defenders, combat discrimination and inequality,

2)      Enhanced public knowledge for cultural diversity through cultural production,

3)      Improved level of regional cooperation, partnership and networking between CSOs in Serbia.

….. Theatre play will include different short stories from everyday life, exposing the discrimination behaviour, gender gaps and needs of disabled people and/or rights of the minority groups.
